Concept B

About this concept

An alternative direction to Concept A: what it is made of, and what it is not.

What this is

Concept B is an alternative direction to Concept A, built by Clearview for WFEO’s evaluation of Expressions of Interest for its website redesign, so WFEO has two genuinely different options to react to.

Concept A follows the menu already on WFEO’s new staging site. Concept B takes its structure from three of WFEO’s own sources instead: the federation’s geography (members in five regions, committees hosted by members), the SDGs tab WFEO publishes for every committee, and the Strategic Plan 2026–2035, whose Strategic Priority 11 asks for a website that is a knowledge hub for engineering and the SDGs and gives members visibility.

Where the staging menu went

Every top-level item of WFEO’s staging menu, and where it lives in Concept B

What it is not

  • Not WFEO’s website. The official site is wfeo.org.
  • Not the production platform. Production would be built in WFEO’s existing WordPress staging environment, as the EOI asks.
  • Not a new brand. It keeps WFEO’s logo (the header file prepared for Concept A, with a background artefact behind the wordmark removed) and WFEO’s navy and link blue. The typefaces, Fraunces and Public Sans (both SIL Open Font License), are a deliberate contrast with Concept A’s Barlow, to show a lighter, editorial register, not a proposal to change WFEO’s type.
  • Not the final design. It was built before any conversation with WFEO; expect it to change after discovery. That is the point of discovery.

How it was made

  • Nothing invented. Facts come from WFEO’s published pages (wfeo.org, the staging site, the Strategic Plan, worldengineeringday.net, wfeoacademy.com), read 13 October 2026, and sources are cited on each page.
  • Labelled Illustrative: the annual progress page, the Academy’s fellows map, the next Awards edition, the supporters’ section, the portal roles and the language switcher.
  • Real data. 132 organisations from WFEO’s member pages; the SDGs of all thirteen committees and working groups from their wfeo.org SDGs tabs; 666 actions from wfeo.org/wfeo-and-un-sdgs. Only organisation names, types, countries and websites are shown: no officers, addresses or phone numbers, and no portraits.
  • A real map. Country shapes from Natural Earth 1:50m (public domain), drawn in the Equal Earth projection and matched to WFEO’s country names by ISO 3166 three-letter codes. Borders are Natural Earth’s, not a statement by WFEO or Clearview. The map is an image for screen readers, with the same information in the region and country lists beside it.
  • Forms send nothing. The search and filters work only in your browser; the portal sign-in cannot submit.
  • Built on Nanopage, an AI-assisted site platform that our CTO, Jasmin Ihtijarevic, is involved in building. It is the fastest way for us to show something real; it is not what we propose for production.

Languages

English only. The French and Spanish links in the Explore menu are Illustrative: the Strategic Plan (SP11) asks for multilingual access, and which languages, and how they are translated, is for discovery.

Accessibility

Built to WCAG 2.2 AA: skip link, one heading structure per page, visible focus, keyboard-operable menu, map lists and filters, status messages for result counts, text in rem, reflow at 320 px. SDG tiles use the UN colours with whichever text colour reaches 4.5:1. Tested with axe-core on every page; manual screen-reader testing is still to do.

Taking it down

The concept is unlisted and marked noindex on every page. If WFEO would like it removed, tell us and we will take it down the same day.
